An exhibition which showcases the outcome of a workshop jointly held by the National University of Singapore and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI-Les Ateliers). The theme for the workshop was ‘water, its relationship to everyday life, the cultural aspects, and the challenges facing sustainable development’. The exhibition presents five different innovative concepts based on the following themes:• Conservation in conversation – how can we involve customers in saving water in a social dining environment?
• How can cities turn rain into a good opportunity through energy?
• Water power – taking a not-necessarily-ecological viewpoint?
• Can we control the dryness in homes by harvesting humidity or rainwater?
• Rain like you have never seen before
This exhibition is made possible with support of Region Ile de France and Embassy of France in Singapore.

About TedTalk
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.
TEDTalks began as a simple attempt to share what happens at TED with the world. Under the moniker “ideas worth spreading,” talks were released online. They rapidly attracted a global audience in the millions. Indeed, the reaction was so enthusiastic that the entire TED website has been reengineered around TEDTalks, with the goal of giving everyone on-demand access to the world’s most inspiring voices.

The new edition of “La Casa del III Millennio” intends to focus precisely on the ethical aspect of design, the very aspect that respects man and the environment, and it does so by promoting a competition of ideas around issues like reuse of materials, visibility of the designed space, durability of artisanal products, reduction of production waste, communicability of ethical design.
The initiative aims at creating products for a market that is increasingly aware and in need of new ideas that should stem from the synergy of the best creative minds and the most dynamic companies of the territory.

please send your design work of practical kitchen accessories, objects and utensils for food reparation, cooking, cool storage, new waste containers, … innovations that combine effective design with environmental issues and energy/water conservation.
you can send drawings and / or photos of prototypes of what you would like to show in this exhibition.
from the humble fireplace to electrical oven cooktops, kitchens have evolved over time to become much more than simply an area for cooking. nowadays it is a place for eating and socializing – an integral part of our daily lifestyle. as the new hub of the modern home, we expect more from our kitchen – convenience, comfort, cleanliness, the latest technology – while simultaneously demanding less – less energy consumption, water usage, and waste.
it’s a delicate balance, and one that is in a constant state of development. in this spirit of evolving the archetype, designboom in collaboration with dwell on design will host a ‘kitchen ecology: recipes for good design’ exhibition. it’s now time for a kitchen strategy session, making it the ideal place to
reduce our environmental impact. just like with any recipe, we need to modify our habits and experiment with new (and old) ingredients and methods to be successful.
send your work
please email your submissions to: mail@designboom.com
subject line: ‘kitchen-ecology‘.
emails should not exceed 3 MB – (.jpg, .gif, psd, pdf, doc files accepted)

The PlayPump water system is a children’s merry-go-round attached to a water pump, a raised storage tank, an easy-to-use faucet, and four billboards surrounding the tank. The life-changing invention can provide easy access to clean drinking water, lead to improvements in health, education, gender equality, and economic development, and bring joy to children. The PlayPump water system provides an environmentally-friendly and sustainable supply of clean drinking water with ten years of guaranteed maintenance.
Below are the videos from CNN’s David McKenzie with a playground wheel for children, which works as a pump bringing clean ground water to communities, as well as from youtube.
