Smart National Project Internship: Modeling and Simulation of Smart Urban Infrastructure

Our Thales Research & Technology (TRT) in Singapore is conducting research in the field of Advanced Crowd Simulations in Urban environments. SE-Star, Thales’ crowd simulator, is an advanced biomimetic simulator which aims at producing realistic and high fidelity simulations of crowd behaviors as well as complex urban infrastructures. The simulation comprised of two main components they are the Adaptive Agents (simulated individuals) and the Smart Objects (urban infrastructure). Smart objects offer agents consumable services modelled from the real world.

You will be working with our team to:

  • Define new smart objects in Singapore context.
  • Implement the new smart objects and the services offered as well as how the agents interact with them.
  • Operate and validate the simulation with SE-Star

You will have the opportunity to work with other industrial and/or government stakeholders who are interested in using SE-Star to simulate and solve their real world problems.

Requirements :

  • Student must be able to commit to at least 20 weeks.
  • Year 3/4 students preferred.

Smart Nation Project Internship: Individual and Crowd Behaviour Modeling

Each Adaptive Agent has a unique personality with autonomous motivational driven and opportunistic behavior.

You will be working with our team to enhance and localize features and characteristics of the Adaptive Agents in Singapore’s context. Your responsibilities would include:

  • Identification of local individual and crowd behaviors for a potential environment to be simulated
  • Translation of the identified behaviors together the engineers who will then model and implement them in the simulator
  • Assessment and validation of the realism of the behaviors in the completed simulation

You will have the opportunity to work with other industrial and/or government stakeholders who are interested in using SE-Star to simulate and solve their real world problems.

Requirements:

  • The candidate should have strong interest in applications of human behavioral/psychological knowledge to engineering applications.
  • This is a three-month vacation internship with possibility to continue part time during the following semester.
  • Year 3 students preferred.

SBPA

The Singapore Book Publishers Association (SBPA) was formally established on 19 July 1968, with 22 member companies involved in the publishing, importation and distribution of textbooks. Over the years, the SBPA has grown from strength to strength, expanding its membership to 65 companies that publish on a wide range of topics in the four official languages of Singapore.

 INAUGURAL BOOK PUBLISHING INTERNSHIP (updated as of 30 March 2015)

 The SBPA is looking for undergraduate interns to participate in its inaugural book publishing internship programme, which will now run from 25 May to 31 July 2015. Selected students can look forward to interning at one of SBPA’s participating member companies during this period (at Appendix A). Interns will also attend training seminars conducted by experienced SBPA staff on relevant skills in book publishing, such as copyediting, proofreading, book marketing and book designing. Interns will also get to tour printing and distribution companies to better understand the final stages of book production.

A supervisor/mentor will be assigned to guide the intern throughout the programme. The remuneration for this programme will be $600.00 per month.

Pre-requisites

  1.  Students must be majoring in arts, business, design, marketing, social sciences-related subjects
  2. Excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in either Mandarin, Malay or Tamil will be an added advantage
  3. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in groups when required
  4. Meticulous and resourceful, with the ability to multitask
  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  6. Positive attitude and a willingness to learn

Other qualities

Proficiency in PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator is welcomed but candidates must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications
