This was an article contribution by Associate Professor Tan Ern Ser from the Department of Sociology at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, in which he discussed whether filial piety or love can be a reliable basis of intergenerational support for aged parents. Assoc Prof Tan cited findings from a 2011 social stratification survey that was conducted by the Centre for Family and Population Research at NUS, which revealed that love is a more reliable basis of intergenerational support than filial piety.
