It was reported that Mr Muhammad Syakir Hashim, a student from NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, has set up skolafund.com, a web platform to help needy students to crowdfund their scholarships for higher education. The platform has helped around 60 students, mostly Malaysians. Since its establishment in April 2016, the website has attracted more than 6,000 users and crowdfunded more than RM400,000.

Mr Syakir’s interest in helping the community started when he was the President of the NUS Entrepreneurship Club and a volunteer at Praxis, a wing under the Association of Muslim Professionals which exposes students to social issues. He is also the chairman of Community Leader’s Fund Labs under Yayasan Mendaki. He was awarded the Young Entrepreneur Award from the Singapore Money Broker’s Association in 2014.
