This was a report on a study titled “Class and Social Orientations” conducted by Associate Professor Tan Ern Ser, who is from the Department of Sociology at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as well as the Social Lab at the Institute of Policy Studies. The study had found that class is a defining division in society in Singapore, and that the class a person falls into shapes his attitudes and choices. Assoc Prof Tan based his findings on a 2011 survey on 2,700 Singaporeans, who were asked their views on a range of issues such as factors for success and politics.
