Dear students (Year 1 and 2),

The application for NUS-in-Yale 2011 Summer Programme is now open. ELIGIBILITY:
This programme is open to Year 1 and 2 students of USP and USP partner faculties (BIZ, FASS, FOE, FOS, SDE & SOC), with a minimum CAP of 3.5.  Priority will be given to Year 2 students. For selected USP students, substitution credit will be given for one first-tier USP module.  The two modules taken at Yale may substitute for major/faculty requirements upon approval by the department or faculty; approval may be sought through the usual procedure for SEP module substitution. USP students will also further develop what they have learnt at Yale through supervised independent study as part of their USP Advanced Curriculum.

For selected non-USP students, approval from home faculty or department should be sought for module substitution/mapping. Please refer to this website for details on FASS students’ module mapping for summer programmes.

http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/intl/special_prog/modulemapping_OEP.html

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENT:

NUS will provide a substantial student grant to cover the expenses including fees, airfare, accommodation and visa.  However, each student selected for this programme will have to contribute SGD3,500 as co-payment towards the total cost.  USP students may approach USP office for further financial assistance for up to SGD1,000. Non-USP students may also approach their respective home faculty for financial assistance: however, they should understand that such funding is at the faculty’s discretion, and may not be granted.

We thus advise non-USP students, before applying, to ensure that they have sufficient self-funding for the SGD3,500 co-payment should they not receive funding from their faculty.

APPLICATION:

Interested students must apply ONLINE. Application period ends Sunday, March 6, 2359 hr.

In support of the application, please submit a one-page CV and an essay of about 1,000 words explaining why you are interested in the field of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) OR Human Relations. This essay:

• Must be freshly written for this application and must not have been submitted previously;
• Must explain how your participation in the NUS-in-Yale Programme will further develop your interest in this field (compared to an exchange programme to other Universities in either the U.S. or elsewhere); and
• If possible, suggest how participation in the programme could benefit your future research projects (like ISMs, honours theses) on your return to NUS.

1. For the theme of PPE – the essay can focus on a specific field only (e.g. Politics) or it can be a combination (e.g. Politics and Economics).
