INNOVATE 2011 – Now open for applications

On behalf of International Relations Office:

NUS students may now apply for INNOVATE 2011: China, which will take place between 5 to 15 March 2011 in the major Chinese cities of Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai.

INNOVATE is an international academic conference for undergraduate and graduate students that examines the relationship between technology, globalization, and leadership in the contemporary marketplace. Through company site visits and meetings with key business, academic, and government leaders, INNOVATE will help prepare delegates to become tomorrow’s industry leaders.

 Cost for NUS Delegates

NUS delegates for INNOVATE 2011 will pay a conference fee of USD $1,900 (approx. SGD $ 2,500) which includes:

  • All INNOVATE company site tours & related program events
  • Included cultural tours or special events as indicated in the conference itinerary
  • Double-occupancy accommodation and daily breakfast in China
  • Airport transfers to/from hotel in China (if arriving at same time as U.S. group flight)
  • Daily breakfast, all lunches, and most dinners
  • Ground transportation abroad to all conference sites and events
  • Tips for tour guides & bus drivers

*Please note that the conference fee does not include airfare from Singapore to China and back. Successful applicants may be eligible for financial aid of up to SGD $500 from the NUS International Relations Office.

University of Amsterdam Summer Courses with Partial scholarships

University of Amsterdam would like to offer students from U21 partners of which NUS is one; three of her summer courses

A. Social Policies & Pragmatic Tolerance is a 3-week programme for undergraduate/bachelor students on subjects such as immigration, drugs and sex work. There are 10 scholarships of 400 Euro available for students of U21 partners. The tuition fee will be 1400 Euro. More information www.gsss.uva.nl/sopo 

 B. Alcohol, Drugs and Addiction as a Global Problem is a two week programme for graduate/master students which provides a multi disciplinary approach to the study of addiction. There will be 5 scholarships available of 300 Euro for students of U21 partners The tuition fee will be 1300 Euro.  More information: www.gsss.uva.nl/sia

 C. Sexuality, Culture and Society is an intensive four-week programme for graduate/master and PhD students which focuses on the study of sexuality across cultures. There will be 3 scholarships available of 400 Euro for students of U21 partners. The tuition fee will be 2300 Euro. more information: www.gsss.uva.nl/sis

 Tuition includes excursions, readers, lunches on class days, access tot the university’s librariers and computer facilities, city transport pass. The tuition does not include travel to and from Amsterdam nor housing.

 Please direct any query to Amsterdam directly. All applications are to be submitted to them directly. Decision on the awarding of scholarship is also at the discretion of Amsterdam and not NUS. Please direct any query on such matters to them as well. As this is a summer school during your vacation, you will not need NUS endorsement or approval to go on the summer programme.

Also there will be no other form of financial aid offered by FASS for this summer school; it is entirely self-funded by the students.  On issue of module mapping, please refer to this website.

8th Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme 2011 – NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATION

On behalf of International Relations Office:

The Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme is a prestigious programme spearheaded by the respective Ministry of Education (MOE) of Singapore and China. It aims to instill Singaporean students with a global perspective and understanding on China and its potential, and to expose the Chinese students to life and education in Singapore.

This is a non-credit bearing programme where NUS students will host the Chinese visitors for 2 days in Singapore in March and later participate in a 2 week immersion program in China in May. Each participant is only required to pay a part of the airfare to China which would not exceed S$550.

Application is now open and the closing date for application is Wednesday 12th January 2011, at 12pm (Please note the early deadline!). Students are to apply directly to the IRO and more information, including the application forms can be downloaded from the Sino-Singapore webpage on the IRO website (http://www.nus.edu.sg/iro/nus/students/prog/others/sinosg/index.html).

Founded in 1872 and currently located in the 7th arondissement of Paris, Sciences Po Paris is a highly selective and respected “Grand Établissement” that has traditionally educated France’s political and diplomatic elite, but whose academic focus now encompasses law, communications, finance, business, urban policy, management, and journalism, in addition to the political and economic sciences.  Courses are taught in both French and English.  See their website for more information http://www.sciencespo.fr/en/

 We are fortunate to have the Program Director for the Asia Pacific Center, Mr. Miguel Lim, visiting NUS on Friday, December 10th.  Mr. Lim will be giving a presentation to all students and staff who are interested in learning more about Sciences Po and what it has to offer, for example undergraduate and postgraduate programs, exchange programs, admission requirements, scholarships, etc.
