In the past, no one ever thought that one day our world will evolve tremendously in technology with almost every part of our lives involve computers. Computers, started off as personal computers that are desktop bounded which stays in the offices and rooms. However, today we can see almost everyone is equipped with a laptop at work and schools.
The first step towards the invention of the laptop was from, Tetsuya Mizoguchi, a engineer in Toshiba Corporation in 1983. He was hardworking and was always full of new ideas. Based on his experience and his frequent visits to the United States, he envisioned a portable computer.
The second step was to convince the leaders at Toshiba to accept his idea of a portable computer which at that time, not many even had personal computers at home. His proposal was then denied, as the company had just lost their marketplace with the personal computer. This did not stop Mizoguchi. Determined that the laptop project will success, and he continued to research and develop on the project.
Mizoguchi’s hard work paid off in 1985, when he was finally able to present the laptop at Toshiba. With the help of Atsutoshi Nishida, senior vice president of Toshiba Europe, the first ten thousand sets of Toshiba laptops were manufactured and sold. He was then rewarded by Toshiba as a company hero.
In conclusion, Mizoguchi started the idea of portable computers which led to the invention of the Toshiba laptop. Today, there are more than five major companies that are manufacturing laptops, and because of Mizoguchi, engineers are constantly looking for ideas to improve and invent new technology products. A current technology, would be the netbook, which is smaller in size than conventional laptops, but that would be discussed another time.
