Keynote Speaker At The 6th Annual International Conference on Journalism and Mass Communications

Professor Mohan J Dutta will deliver the keynote for the upcoming 6th Annual International Conference on Journalism and Mass Communications (JMComm 2017), entitled Digital Media, Globalisation and Sustainability: Asian Possibilities, that will discuss:

…the role of communication in co-creating possibilities for socially just and sustainable futures. Theorizing the role of communication inequalities in reproducing global power differentials and social inequalities, the talk will explore the role of participation, dialogue, and listening as strategic entry points for building policies and programs that are rooted in the lived experiences of communities at the margins.

Fake News Must Die- Hackathon 2017

The organisers of this Hackathon aim to reduce the impact of misinformation by making it easy for users to quickly verify or check if a rumour or piece of information they received is real. For instance, this can take the form of a website where users can submit a query and quickly check if the rumour/information is real. The website could also enable crowd-sourcing of fact checking as a way to enable scale. Initially, fact checkers will come from students from various tertiary institutions and a pool of trained volunteers.

First, an online platform for these fact checkers needs to be created.
