Welcome to Asian Urbanisms
This is the blog of the Asian Urbanisms Cluster at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS). Our blog reflects the interdisciplinary nature of ARI, with posts written by geographers, historians, sociologists, and other scholars trained in the social sciences and humanities. Posts are primarily written by cluster members (see page ‘Who We Are’), but we are open to other contributors from NUS and elsewhere. Our posts fall under several primary themes:
- Events hosted by our cluster, and other events taking place in the wider ARI and NUS community.
- Reflections and commentary on historical and contemporary contexts related to urbanisation and cities in Asia.
- Excerpts from or reviews of recent publications, in the spirit of improving accessibility to material published on urban issues in Asia.
- Reflections on media (movies, novels, popular writing, etc.) which do not always fall under the ‘academic radar’, but can often be equally (or more) stimulating.
