Welcome Tea & Elections Round Up!
Its back to school for all NUS students and that means its ‘back to business’ with NUS Animal Welfare.
After a succesful Matric Fair recruitment drive the next step was to brief all interested students on what AWG was all about and this was done at our Welcome Tea session on 14 August. The night begun at around 6:40pm when our founder Jaipal Singh set the mood by explaining the AWG mission and objectives.
Jaipal then went on to dazzle the audience by running through the list of events AWG had done and the accomplishments of AWG for the past 2 years.
After getting a flavor of what AWG was about, the audience participated in the AWG elections to decide the on the new commitee. Our MC for the night (Raj) described the responsibilities of each role and also briefed the audience on the elecetion process.
At around 7:15pm the elections officially kicked off with the nominees for the ‘Treasury’ position giving their speeches followed by all the other positions.
The speeches was followed by a Q&A session where any member of the audience could ask the nominee questions. The questions ranged from qualifications, to experience and to values. The nominees were then invited out of the function room so that the audince could vote in the new committee for AWG.
After 1 hour of elections 15 out of 16 committee positions were filled with enthusiastic, passionate and capable Animal Lovers.

Matriculation Fair!
NUS Animal Welfare participated in its 1st ever Matric fair and it turned out to be a ‘ROARING SUCCESS’ with over 300 freshmen expressing interest in participating in our cause. Days before the Matric fair our voulnteers worked round the clock to get our posters, flyers, postcards and newsletters sorted out. The Matric fair kicked off on the 24th July (set up day) when 5 of our own NUS AWS volunteers transported all logistics for the booth set up. The set up was to begin around 9am but in classis Animal Welfare ‘eager-beaverness’ our volunteers arrived at 7am to start up and we were the first group to be at the Matric fair set up!
After 5 hours of heaving our logistics from Kallang to NUS to level 2 of MPSH and finally to setting up our deco we are proud to present the AWS booth!
During the Matric Fair days there was never a dull moment and the interest kept pouring in. Our posters and video attracted the freshmen and our flyer, newsletter and postcards educated them.
The booth was never under-manned and at all times we had 1 public relations pair and 1 admin manger in our very own office (i.e. ehind our posters)! The NUS Animal Welfare Society would like to thank the following volunteers who helped make this event a success: Willy, Harsharon, Davi, Venky, Sharon, Janani, Satveer, Liling, Jaipal and Raj. Look out for our next update on the Welcome Tea Round Up.
